Rio Serrano : riding : Balmaceda to Rio Serrano

2-days (overnight stay at Lago Brush)

A great way to arrive at the Torres del Paine National park that definitely beats the bus!

We meet at the Hosteria & Camping Glacier Balmaceda early morning, meet our horses and pack up ready. Day one we ride through vitual wilderness up through the valley between Glacier Chacabuco on the east and Glaciers Serrano and Balmaceda to the west. The landscape is low scrub and lenga woodland as we wind our way along the trail. This land is privately owned and it is very unlikely we will see anyone here.

After approximately three hours we arrive at our overnight stop, Lago Brush. Here we will have this lakeside paradise all to ourselves. After pitching our tents amongst the daisies and right alongside the lakeside a well-deserved dinner is prepared in the hut (still utilised by the gauchos who work in this area) while you watch the sunset over the lake. A woodburning stove keeps us all cosy while we dine!

After a good nights sleep we will have a good breakfast, pack up our tents and head off for day two.

Today we will find the landscape changes to grassy woodlands and we will catch glimpses of the spectacular mountain range to the north-west, towards Glacier Tyndall. The trail takes us up to Rio Serrano where we can see some interesting areas such as pampas land, Salto falls and Rio Nutria before riding into the Rio Serrano campsite.

From the Rio Serrano campsite you can arrange for transport to all the areas of interest in the Torres del Paine National Park.
